Ali McGuirk at ODK

  • Orange Door Kitchen 251 Arlington St Acton, MA 01720 (map)

The 2018 Boston Music Award winner for “Blues Artist of the Year,” Ali McGuirk, has made a career of captivating audiences with her powerful, buttery voice and heartfelt songwriting. Her earliest years as a performer were spent earning residencies across four continents — from Santorini to Hong Kong.

In 2016, she was recognized by the Boston Globe as an “artist to hear,” along with Lake Street Dive, Haim, and other notables. In 2017, she released her first full-length album, “Slow Burn,” which was named on multiple year-end lists.

Her influences include Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Donny Hathaway, Bill Withers, Nina Simone, Sheila Jordan, Bonnie Raitt, and Janis Joplin.

The Boston Globe wrote, McGuirk is “a soul singer who evokes comparisons to Amy Winehouse, but rocks even harder.” And The Improper Bostonian noted, “When [Ali] opens her mouth, people stop and take notice, captivated by her swooping, honeyed voice.”

“Fugitive at the Door” is a bi-weekly music series presented by Fugitive Productions and Orange Door Kitchen. Since the winter of 2015, Fugitive has been bringing great dance bands to The Gallery at Villageworks. Now, Fugitive is partnering with Villageworks’ newest venue, Orange Door Kitchen, to present “listening” music — one to a few performers playing jazz, folk, bluegrass, blues, classical, world music, possibly even a cappella. Whatever strikes our fancy — and yours.

“Fugitive at the Door” happens two Wednesdays a month. Orange Door Kitchen serves a few small plates and snacks each evening with a full bar. We think you will fall in love with the room and the amenities and hope that our Wednesday evening events offer a regular mid-week break for you.

Orange Door is a no cash, no tipping venue — all transactions are digital and gratuities are included in the menu price.
