An Acton Coffee House Evening: Beckett and Jazz

  • The Gallery at Villageworks 525 Massachusetts Avenue Acton, MA, 01720 United States (map)

THREE SHOWS:
Thursday, May 5 at 8pm
Friday, May 6 at 8pm
Sunday, May 8 at 630pm

Join Acton Coffee House for an evening of Drama and Jazz.  POCKET PRODUCTIONS presents its first offering, two short plays by Samuel Beckett, "KRAPP'S LAST TAPE" and "ROCKABY", followed by live jazz set from Bill Jones.

“Krapp's Last Tape” and “Rockaby” are short masterpieces. In each, Beckett uses taped voices and sparse, lyrical language to explore memory, age, and the tricks time plays on the mind.

“Krapp's Last Tape" will be performed on alternate nights by Chuck Schwager and Bill Plott. Schwager is an award-winning local actor who has played everything from Morty in The Last Jews to Friar Laurence in Romeo and Juliet. Plott is the former director of the LSB Players at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School for more than two decades. It has been a long-time ambition to direct and act in a production of “Krapp's Last Tape.”

Along with this unique theater event,  BILL JONES, an accomplished saxophonist and improviser, will be performing. He has a penchant towards a progressive and intelligent style of playing — his music also possesses a warm, emotive quality.  Jones performs, teaches, and resides in the Boston area. He has performed with top Boston area musicians at The Beehive, Wally’s Cafe, Ryles, Acton Jazz Cafe, the Portsmouth Press Room, Top of the Hub, Michael Timothy’s, Chianti, among many others.

Doors open a half hour before curtain.
